MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio — A man is in serious condition after a car crashed into a Middleburg Heights building while he was on a Zoom call, Police Chief Ed Tomba said.
The crash happened shortly before 11 a.m. at Davis & Company CPAs on Pearl Road and Seneca Trail.
A dump truck was trying to make a left into a parking lot on Pearl Road when a car was coming from the opposite direction and struck it in the bumper, Tomba said. It appears the dump truck made too wide of a left turn, he noted.
The driver of the car tried to stop, but instead pressed the gas pedal, crashed into the bumper and flew onto a tree lawn before crashing into the building, Tomba said. The office worker got pinned under the car.
The man on the Zoom call was taken to Southwest General Health Center and later taken by helicopter to MetroHealth, he said.
Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. Tomba did not have the condition of the woman driving the car.
Tomba said he is unsure what business the man was sitting in on at the time of the crash. Detectives are currently at the hospital trying to get information from the victim.
